The craft takes its name from the aari, a fine hooked needle historically used to draw thread through fabric in continuous chain-stitch loops.

The motifs on every piece in the Novbahar Collection were designed by artisans based in the Kashmir Valley — craftspeople carrying generations of pattern-making and colour knowledge forward.
