Novbahar Black Kashmiri Kaftan with Mauve and Olive Aari Embroidery
Description
There is a particular quality to wildflowers growing through dark soil — the way mauve and lavender blooms become more vivid against darkness, the way olive green foliage reads as richer, more present, more alive. The Novbahar Black Kaftan with Mauve and Olive Aari Embroidery is built from exactly that observation. Fan-shaped blooms in mauve, lavender, and dusty purple — connected by confident olive green vine and leaf work — sit at the neckline and flow into two generous floral clusters at the lower front body. Against jet black crush cotton, every tone of purple is fully present and every shade of green reads with a depth it could not achieve on a lighter ground. This is the most botanically generous and the most quietly romantic piece in the Novbahar Collection.
Part of the Novbahar 2026 Collection by KashmirPheran — the brand's dedicated collection of Kashmiri Aari embroidery kaftans — this kaftan carries the only purple-mauve and olive green embroidery palette in the entire collection. It shares a base colour with the Novbahar Black White Kaftan but arrives in an entirely different emotional register: where the white embroidery reads as stark and architectural, the mauve and olive reads as warm, feminine, and garden-grown.
The neckline composition features fan-shaped lotus and chrysanthemum-like blooms opening outward from the split notch, threaded together by fine olive green vines and leaf clusters. A single large dark mauve leaf drops below the V as a pendant — the defining detail of this neckline. Two substantial floral cluster motifs — generous in scale, rich in colour — sit at the lower front body on each side, making this the most generously embroidered body placement of any standard-length kaftan in the collection. A single mauve and olive sprig at the centre back. A fine mauve scroll border runs the full hemline and sleeve edges, completing the piece in the same warm purple tone it opens with.

How to Style
For a festive evening — pair with antique gold or rose gold heels, amethyst or pearl drop earrings, and a black or mauve clutch. The mauve and olive palette against black is inherently festive without being loud — this kaftan dresses an evening occasion with warmth rather than drama.
For casual everyday wear — wear with black flat sandals or white sneakers, minimal gold jewellery, and a structured bag in black or tan. The generous body embroidery means this kaftan is visually complete from the moment it is worn — it requires nothing more to look intentional.
For gifting — mauve and olive on black is a sophisticated colour combination that suits women across age groups and personal styles. The botanical quality of the embroidery and the warmth of the purple palette make this one of the most considered gifting pieces in the Novbahar Collection — for Diwali, weddings, and celebrations where the gift should feel personal.
About the Craft & the Artisans
The fan-shaped floral motifs in this kaftan draw from a specific botanical tradition in Kashmiri embroidery — the rendering of lotus and chrysanthemum blooms as open, symmetrical fan forms, where each petal radiates outward from a central point with equal spacing and consistent curve. This motif family is distinct from the rose and paisley traditions that appear elsewhere in the collection — it requires a different stitch sequence and a different understanding of how symmetry is built through chain-stitch. The olive green vine work that connects the florals is worked in a fine, directional stitch that follows the natural growth direction of a vine — curving where a vine curves, branching where it would branch. Together, the purple florals and the olive foliage create a composition that reads as grown rather than placed — the defining quality of the finest Kashmiri botanical embroidery.
The designs were conceived by artisan designers in the Kashmir Valley. The embroidery is produced there and each kaftan is finished there — ensuring the craft and its value remain rooted in the community that created it.
At KashmirPheran, we believe the most enduring Kashmiri embroidery is the kind that begins with something living — a flower, a vine, a valley in bloom. The Novbahar 2026 Collection is our contribution to that belief.
