Novbahar Garnet Red Kashmiri Kaftan with Ivory and Sage Aari Embroidery
Description
Garnet is not red in the ordinary sense. It is the red of something precious — deep, dense, with a warmth that ordinary red cannot hold. The Novbahar Garnet Red Kaftan is built around that depth. Wide batwing sleeves that drape from shoulder to wrist. An asymmetric hemline — longer at the sides, shorter at the centre — that moves differently with every step. A silhouette that is unmistakably a kaftan and entirely its own thing at the same time. This is the most dramatic piece in the Novbahar Collection.
Part of the Novbahar 2026 Collection by KashmirPheran — our celebration of Kashmiri craft in contemporary silhouettes — this kaftan is made in crush cotton, lightweight and breathable, chosen because garnet in a heavy fabric loses the luminosity that makes this colour worth wearing.
The Kashmiri Aari embroidery in ivory, olive, and muted sage is placed in four distinct locations — each one a decision, not a repetition. A dense floral and leaf composition frames the split V-neckline, with a single large leaf motif dropping below the V into the chest — a design detail that is specific to this piece and visible in every photograph. Two generous floral and leaf sprig motifs sit on the lower front body, one on each side, anchoring the garnet base with botanical detail. On the back, a single central floral motif — minimal, considered, present. The entire hemline and sleeve edges are finished with a delicate golden vine scroll border that completes the piece from every angle.

How to Style
For a festive evening — pair with gold strappy heels, gold chandelier earrings, and a gold or garnet clutch. The batwing sleeves create natural drama in motion — this kaftan needs nothing added to own an evening room.
For a daytime celebration — style with tan block heels, oxidised silver jhumkas, and a minimal crossbody in ivory or tan. The golden border catches daylight beautifully — the piece looks as considered at noon as it does at night.
For everyday wear — wear with white sneakers or flat sandals and keep jewellery simple. The asymmetric hemline and batwing sleeves make this effortlessly stylish for a long day out — garnet is the kind of colour that does the work so you don't have to.
About the Craft & the Artisans
The embroidery placement on this kaftan reflects a design intelligence specific to the Kashmiri Aari tradition — the understanding that a dramatic silhouette requires embroidery that works with the garment's movement, not against it. The neckline composition anchors the piece when the kaftan is still. The body motifs come into view as the batwing sleeves fall open. The back motif ensures the piece is complete from every angle. The golden border traces the hemline so that the garnet and the embroidery are in conversation even at the edges. Each of these decisions was made by artisan designers based in the Kashmir Valley — craftspeople for whom embroidery placement is as much a part of the design as the motifs themselves. The embroidery is produced in Kashmir and each piece is finished there.
At KashmirPheran, we believe Kashmiri craft belongs in a modern wardrobe — worn with intention, noticed from every angle. The Novbahar 2026 Collection is our contribution to that.
